3 Hour Drive We’re headed to Tanzania’s oldest and largest reserve, the Serengeti. But along our route, we’ll stop at a very special place – the Oldupai Gorge. Immense troves of fossilized remnants from ancient man have been discovered here, including vast numbers of tools. These have provided an invaluable record of human development. It’s an eye-opening experience.

But the great Serengeti is next – it’s a great treeless plain, extending to the horizon, filled with wildebeest, gazelle, zebra, impalas, and exciting populations of lions, leopards, and cheetahs. We’ll begin our game drives over the vast spaces here looking for wildlife, like the over 50,000 buffalo filling these wide-open grasslands.

Plenty of time today to get to know the Serengeti, with unlimited game drives and time for relaxation at your accommodation. The great park has been called one of the “Seven Natural Wonders of Africa” because of its wildlife by the millions and its brilliant display of over 500 colorful bird species.

We’ll take a lunch break to rest and refresh between game drives and then set out tracking for big and small game like honey badger, wild dog, monkey, and baboon. We’ll also explore the park’s rivers and may even find some unexpected wildlife like hippos and crocodiles.

Let’s rise early to make the most of our final safari day! The morning light across the park’s great plains is warm and inviting as the animals stir in the fields. We’ll take a game drive for some last sightings of the Serengeti’s many inhabitants and also enjoy a big safari breakfast.
